Antony completed a pupillage with Esmond Faulks in the chambers of Wilfred Steer QC in Newcastle and then moved to Manchester to join the chambers which eventually became Old Colony House Chambers. From there he joined 24A St. John Street Chambers and remained with these chambers when they amalgamated.
Antony's early practice was mixed common law, personal injury, family and crime, with an emphasis on crime. His most important lay civil client was the NCB/British Coal, for whom he acted in several personal injury and nuisance actions. When the civil litigation system was reformed, most of his practice was in criminal law and he decided to specialise in that field. Antony has done so since.

Antony now practices in criminal law in Manchester, Preston/Burnley and substantially in Stoke/Stafford. He conducts cases at all levels, both alone and led, up to and including homicide and the most serious sexual offences. Antony conducts cases for both the prosecution and the defence and is a firm believer that it is essential for counsel to do so.
His education and experience, inside and outside court, enables him to grasp the essentials of a case or argument quickly and to present a case or argument lucidly and forcefully. Antony has been described as having a particular ability to deal with young witnesses, whether presenting them or in cross-examination, and he conducts many cases where such witnesses are involved.
