
Following a common law pupillage, Megan Rhys now enjoys a predominantly criminal practice, involving both prosecution and defence work. She also represents all parties in family cases. She is a visiting lecturer on the Bar Vocational Course in Leeds, where she teaches advocacy and conference skills.
Megan completed a common law pupillage under the supervision of Graham Robinson (now HHJ Robinson) and Jeremy Baker QC. She now practises crime, predominantly in the Crown Court prosecuting and defending, as well as representing all parties in family cases.

Married with a daughter.
Interests include swimming, walking the dog and music.

R v Burgin (Lincoln Crown Court)
Defended a man charged with raping his wife.
R v Reidy (Lincoln Crown Court)
Defended a man charged with attempted section 18 wounding. He had produced and tried to use a chainsaw on a group of foreign youths during a night out in Lincoln city centre.
R v Grinfelds (1) (Sheffield Crown Court)
Defended a Latvian national charged with knifepoint robbery. Interpreter required.
R v Grinfelds (2) (Sheffield Crown Court)
Defended the same man subsequently charged with attempted murder, threats to kill and robbery. Led by Paul Watson QC.
R v Hanlon (Doncaster Crown Court)
Defended a nurse charged with indecently assaulting a young female patient in the Accident and Emergency Department of Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
R v James (Sheffield Crown Court)
Defended a man charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs. Pleaded guilty to money laundering. Subsequent Proceeds of Crime Act hearing raised unique point about proceedings once an individual had been deported.

Prosecuted a man for selling stolen library books on Ebay.

Defended a man charged with the murder of his girlfriend by driving at her and crushing her between a wall and his car. Led by Jeremy Baker QC.
R v Close (Barnsley Magistrates Court and Sheffield Crown Court)
Prosecuted a mother for failing to send her children to school, both in the Magistrates Court and subsequently in the Crown Court on appeal.

Represented a teaching assistant charged with assaulting her teenage stepdaughter.

RECENT CASES
NLCC v L (Hull County Court)
Represented a father in care proceedings involving a shaken baby in which he was the perpetrator. Complicated medical evidence. Finding of fact hearing led by Frances Oldham QC and subsequent disposal hearing.
BMBC v O (Sheffield County Court)
Represented a mother in care proceedings in which her partner was subsequently convicted of murder. The mother was alleged to have aided and abetted him and the children were witnesses to the incident.
Gough v Gough (Doncaster County Court)
Represented a father in a lengthy and acrimonious residence application.
