Examples of work undertaken for Prosecution

R v Johnson
Junior Counsel at trial when Defendant convicted of murder. Responded to appeal against conviction in Court of Appeal. Reported case at time on provocation.

R v Khan and 5 others (x 2)
Junior Counsel at trial. Large scale repeated long firm fraud.

R v Towers
Allegation of manslaughter – represented Crown at first instance and then responded to appeal against refusal to vacate plea on grounds of abuse of process in Court of Appeal.

R v Bolsover and 3 others
First case brought in South Yorkshire for racially aggravated harassment in the workplace. Complex case involving the racist bullying of a vulnerable complainant at work over a number of years.

R v Bowrage and Gordon
Substantial drug dealing case involving serious allegations of enforcement violence.

R v X
Serious sexual offences by Defendant against step-daughter. Case unusually proceeded without the evidence of the complainant. Abuse of process point arose of an apparently “novel” nature. Appeal conviction pending.

Junior Counsel. Successful defence of police officer charged with impropriety in relation to surrender of handguns in South Yorkshire under the Home Office scheme implemented in the light of the Dunblane tragedy.

R v McCartney
Junior Counsel. Successful defence of murder allegation resulting in complete acquittal of Defendant.

R v Rowley and others
Junior Counsel. Successful defence of murder allegation resulting in complete acquittal of Defendant.

R v Hallsworth
Junior Counsel. Represented only person charged with South Yorkshire’s biggest armed robbery.

R v Green
Successful defence of what was said to be South Yorkshire’s first money laundering case under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

R v Pedersen
Junior Counsel. Successful defence of carer charged with manslaughter of resident at a home for the elderly.

R v Johnson
Junior Counsel. Represented mature woman who had self-delivered a full term child on two separate occasions separated by a number of years before concealing their remains after they had died. Subsequently pleaded to two offences of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

R v O'Brien
Leading Counsel. Contested conspiracy to defraud trial involving overall losses to complainant of £1.3million.
