Personal Injury

• Employers’ Liability: Rebecca is regularly instructed in relation to workplace accidents, particularly claims brought under the “six-pack regulations”. She also has a particular interest in industrial diseases.

• Road Traffic Accidents: She has extensive experience of road traffic accident cases, from low value portal cases to cases involving complex arguments on liability and/or quantum. She is also instructed in cases involving allegations of fraud.

• Public Liability: Rebecca regularly advises and represents clients in relation to accidents occurring on the highway and in shopping centres, schools and prisons. She has also recently been involved in a number of exercise class claims.

• Non-accidental Injuries: Rebecca is currently instructed in a civil action arising out of the sexual abuse of a child and in a claim made by a care worker who was injured by one of the service users she was looking after.

• Inquests: As a Solicitor Rebecca gained experience of representing interested persons at inquests. She continues to regularly appear at inquests for a range of interested persons. She recently represented an NHS Hospital Trust at a six-day inquest into a death in custody.

• CRU Appeals: Rebecca has appeared in the CRU Tribunal.

• Procedure: She advises and represents clients in relation to all manner of procedural issues. For example, she is regularly instructed in relation to withdrawal of admissions. She was involved, as a Solicitor, in the case of Telling v OCS (mentioned in the White Book at 14.1.8) in which the circuit judge held that the Defendant could not withdraw a pre-action “admission” because there was a binding compromise on the issue of liability. Rebecca also has experience of applying for deferral of dissolution of companies and restoration to the register.

• Costs and Funding: Rebecca gained an in-depth knowledge and understanding of costs and funding issues during her time as a Solicitor. This has proved invaluable when called upon to deal with such issues as Counsel.

• Training: Rebecca enjoys being involved in training. She has recently delivered talks on personal injury procedure and on public liability claims (trips and slips). She has also participated in two mock trials (clinical negligence and public liability) which were delivered as training events.

Clinical Negligence

Prior to transferring to the Bar, Rebecca was a Solicitor specialising in clinical negligence. She has been involved in a wide range of clinical negligence claims, including cases that have resulted in six and seven figure settlements. Settled claims include a case of delayed diagnosis of an arterial embolism which led to a below knee amputation and a case of negligent surgery which caused significant damage to the Claimant’s bladder and led to the Claimant requiring a cystectomy (surgical removal of the bladder).
